the oops trip

I was SO excited about CVS this week.

Why? Because of the Gillette deal! buy $20 worth of Gillette products get $10 ExtraCare Bucks (ECB’s) well, atleast that’s what I thought the deal was. Also because I had a lot of coupons for some of the other items that were on sale and eligible for ECB’s.

It was a shaving kinda of trip I guess. So here’s what I got.

oops, maybe I should have moved that Hershey kiss wrapper before I took the picture… I may or may not have been into the candy for our stocking which I got last week… and My York peppermint patties may or may not already be gone.

So there’s what I got, a box of Playtex sports tampons(which by the way is a bonus pack- it has 20% more than normal), a pack of gum (filler), tylenol, Schick quatro disposable razors, a Schick quatro titanium razor, an 8 pack of cartridges for my husband’s razor, a bottle of shaving cream and a puzzle for Lexi for Christmas.

Ok, so I thought I was going to leave making $ 4.53. That was before I saw the puzzle and had to get the gum to use up the ECB. And before I realized the Gillette deal was only on Fusion and Breeze products. Turns out I really spent $10.22 after tax (in ECB’s of course).

I was thinking about exchanging the $20 worth of Gillette products for ones that would give me $10 ECB’s, but I decided not to do that for 3 reasons. #1 I didn’t feel like going back out because my daughter was extremely fussy today. #2 I wasn’t sure how they would work it all out since I used CVS coupons- I didn’t want to lose even more money in the exchange process, and #3 my husband can’t use the fusion razor so I would have had to buy breeze products for me. Although I really liked the breeze that I had gotten a few trips ago, I thought it would be better to keep the stuff he would use. Plus, I can always go back with more coupons and do the deal the right way to get the breeze products for me.

Either way you look at it, I would have to eventually buy him cartridges, and a 4 pack normally costs around $9, even at walmart. We were also planning on getting Lexi puzzles like that for Christmas, so that would have been $3 we would have spent elsewhere too.

I know I’ve been saying “I would have had to get it anyway” a lot lately. I could be doing a lot better than I am, but for some reason I just don’t care right now. Maybe it’s because of the Christmas “spending” bubble that has come over my head, maybe it’s because if this trip would have worked out the way I planned I would have almost $30 ECB’s. Who knows. I know I still have $18- and that’s plenty. It’s so easy to build up the amount of ECB’s I have, so I’m not concerned.

I used to get all upset if something didn’t go right. I’d call Beth to find out what I did wrong and what I needed to do to fix it. I still call her when something goes wrong- or when it goes right. But I’ve just come to realize it doesn’t matter, life goes on and what do you need 30 razors and 27 tubes of toothpaste for anyway? (is anyone else giving away toothpaste and razors for Christmas ;) )

How did you do this week? Do you ever have these “oops- oh well” moments? What do you do, exchange the product, or grin and bear it?

I did the same thing a week or two ago. I bought the wrong listerine, the wrong batteries, the wrong razor and the wrong cvs tissues – needless to say i was less than excited when none of my expected ECB’s printed out and felt so silly when the cashier pointed out all my mistakes – I thought I had it all figured out! She was an assistant manager and great about it. She saw my disappointment and let me exchange everything right then. I will be reading the fine print a little more carefully from now on! But, you’re right….life does go on, and yes, lots of toothpaste and razors for Christmas!

I had a pretty big oops moment last week. I went in about 15 minutes before CVS closed (not a good sign!!). Hurried as much as I could, didn’t read the FINE print. :) I’m hoping to go back this week and correct it. But like you, I’m worried I’ll end up spending more!! My ECBs didn’t print but hopefully I can get that worked out (I bought 3 packs of batteries, maybe they didn’t all register b/c of the 2 transactions or maybe the computer wasn’t cooperating because they were closing?).

I definitely have “oh well” moments. Sometimes it’s easy to let it go and sometimes I just want to return everything! :) It’s good that you’ll still use the razors, and YES you would have bought them eventually.

I have done a number of oops trips. For future reference, they have no problem returning things you used coupons or ECB to pay. You get back the amount of ECB you paid on a GC. I’ve done it and it worked. Also, those $20 razor deals messed me up a little. I bought 2 $9.99 ones (what was I thinking?). So, I was 2 pennies away from $10 back. I took back one of the razors and got another one that was $11.99. It worked with no problem.

It’s okay! Don’t beat yourself up about it! You’re doing a great job, and I’m sure if you look at the big picture, you are still way ahead! Merry Christmas!
